There’s something about a new year that always gets me. I know that technically nothing changes other than the date on the calendar but there’s something that feels absolutely refreshing when the clock strikes midnight. With the whole year ahead it feels as though I can do anything and I have a huge desire to make changes in my life that will make me a better person!
Like many other bloggers, I love choosing a word to focus my year around. This started in 2015 when I chose the word Grace. Last year I focused on Intentionality. This year the word I have chosen is Open.
I am going to open my heart
I want to do more to be a good friend, wife, and mother in the coming year. I want to be more intentional about spending time with people, adventuring with people, and getting deep with people. I want to work through more of my trust issues and focus on God’s love for me and sharing that love with the people He has put into my life.
I am going to open my home
I long for my home to be a place of community, love, and care! I want my friends and family to feel welcome here and to know that this is a place where they are cherished! I want my home to be viewed as a place where all are welcome and God’s grace is apparent. Nate and I are looking into becoming a foster care respite home and pray our home can be a blessing to the children, their permanent foster families, and their birth families. I want to balance having an open and revolving door with the need for family time and alone time but always err on side of being a home full of love and grace!
I am going to open my wallet
I am going to be intentional about looking for people, ministries, and organizations that need some of the extra finances God has blessed my family and I with. Nate and I will pray that God brings into our lives opportunities to share the blessings He has given us!
I am going to open my Bible
Nate and I have never had a specific plan of spiritual growth that we have done together. This year we are going to open our Bibles together and read through God’s Word – talking about it and challenging one another along the way. (If you’re interested in what program we’ll be using, check out The Bible Project. We’re excited to be going through their reading plan but just watching their videos is such a growing experience too!)
I am going to open my mind
I desire to be a life long learner. I want to learn from books, travel, and people. I want to spend less time in front of the TV and more time experiencing all there is to experience in this world. I want to learn how to do more projects, I want to see more things, and I want to listen to others’ stories.
Do you have a word of the year?
What’s one step you’re taking this week to attain one of your goals?
