Valentine’s Day Toddler Craft

The perfect craft for your toddler to do as a Valentine's Day gift to his or her favorite person!

I love love.  It’s just a fact and I don’t shy away from sharing it.  Love is the best.  The end.

Valentine’s Day (or, as I like to call it, Love Day) is coming up in just under a week so I knew I needed to do something with my little man to express our love for his daddy.  I realized recently that I’ve never introduced Caleb to glue and, since I’ve caught myself being surprised by the things he can do in the past, I decided this Valentine’s Day craft would be the perfect time to see what he can do with a glue stick.

You Need:

Glue Stick
Cardstock or Plain Piece of Paper
Valentine’s Day Color Paper (Cut into 1/2 inch – 1 inch squares)
Pen or Marker
Handing Caleb the glue stick didn’t go as well as I had hoped.  He immediately stuck his fingers in the glue, curious about what this new substance was.  I let him explore it a bit but then took the glue stick from him and showed him how to put it on the paper and stick the little pieces of paper to it.  Even once he understood what the goal of the project was it took him a while to really understand the process of putting glue on, grabbing a small piece of paper, and putting that on the glue.  Gradually he started picking up on the idea but I think it will be a few more projects before he really and truly gets it.

All I had him do for this project was to stick the little pieces of Valentine’s Day colored paper to the main piece of paper.  Once he had enough of gluing I wrote “I Love You” on the piece of paper so he could give it to his daddy.  Hopefully when you do it with your little one he won’t freak out on you like Caleb did since you wrote on his paper.  Yeah, Caleb threw a complete fit and was SO mad at me that I had written on his paper.  It’s hard consoling a two year old when there’s nothing you can do to take back the writing.  I told him I was sorry but basically we just had to wait the tantrum out…  So much for fun projects.  😉

I’ve got to say, it’s really fun pushing Caleb and seeing what he can do with new craft supplies.  I love that he gets so excited each and every time I ask him if he wants to do a project.  He’s my son for sure!
