Dearest Caleb, One month from tomorrow you are expected to come into the world. I can’t believe you’re going to be here so soon! It feels like just yesterday I saw the two little pink lines on that pregnancy test. Your daddy and I can’t wait to meet you, little man, and get to know who you are. As we lie in bed watching and feeling you wiggle around in my stomach, we imagine who you might grow up to be. Could your wiggly-ness mean that you’re going to be a soccer player? Could it mean you’re going to be a dancer? Could it mean that you just don’t like being in confined places and once you’re out in the world you won’t have to wiggle so much? We imagine what traits we hope you get from each of us and try to picture what kind of traits you’ll have all on your own. We know that whatever ideas are in our head for who you will be are probably dead wrong. You’re going to be exactly the person God created you to be and we’re so excited to find out who that is. My dear son, we pray for you all the time. We pray that you’ll be a smart, healthy, and wise person. We pray that you’ll consistently choose right over wrong. We pray that when you do mess up (and we know you will) you won’t hold the guilt in but will know that you are loved and that mess ups don’t change that. Dear Caleb, we pray that you grow into a man who treats women with respect and cherishes them. We pray that you view women as equals – children of God who are to be treated as such. Although we know it will be so hard for you, your daddy and I pray that you will keep your mind pure, keeping yourself from the lust that so easily could entangle you and protecting your gaze from pornography and anything else that would feed that lust. We are already praying for your future wife and family. We pray that she is growing into a wonderful woman of God. We pray that God directs the two of you – through good situations and bad – to each other and that He molds your relationship to be exactly what He desires for the two of you. Above all, we pray that you’ll grow up to fall in love with Jesus. We pray that you won’t get caught up in the legalism, rules, and regulations so many Christians fall prey to. We pray that you’ll experience the true Grace of the Lord and know that His Grace is sufficient for you. Nothing you can do deserves that Grace. It is freely given. We pray that your love for Jesus leads you to do amazing things. Whether that leads you overseas, into the business world, into full time ministry, or where ever else, we pray that you live your life for His glory. Dear little man, come out and meet us soon! I can’t wait to kiss your little cheeks and rock your little body. You are so loved and that will NEVER change!
So sweet Susannah! Your post reminds me of my little guy who's also a big kicker. I'm hosting a baby boy gear giveaway on my blog that you might want to enter for Caleb. 😉
Hi Susannah! What a blessed young man you have inside you. Your prayers are so honorable, I know that the Lord will honor them. May your last month of pregnancy be healthy, happy and prayerful! Know that you are in my prayers as well. Blessings, Ceil
What a beautiful treasure you have given your son, even before he has entered this world! I believe that praying for him is the very best thing you can or ever will do for him. May he realize how blessed he is to have you as parents. Thanks so much for sharing this with us at the #shinebloghop, Susannah! ~Heather @ My Overflowing Cup
What a sweet letter, Susannah! I refuse to think about the kids' future spouses, I don't even want to go there now. Somehow, it was bitter-sweet sending Lily off to school 🙂 I wish for you that all your children will become all you hope for and more! Most of all I wish for all the happiness in the world for your entire family!
It's getting so, so close!!! My Mom shared with us recently that on the day I was born, in the hospital, she felt led to start praying for my future husband, and she did so, every day till she found out who he'd be, 18 years later.
Yay! Looking good. That's a nice choice of name 🙂 I think the best thing we can do for our (future) children, and even the younger generation in general, is to lift them up to the Lord the way Hannah gave Samuel. Blessings to your last month of pregnancy!
