A Cheap Honeymoon in Leavenworth, WA
Where is your dream honeymoon destination? Growing up I thought I’d definitely be going somewhere exotic. Italy was top of my list followed closely by Hawaii, the Bahamas, or anywhere else tropical and warm. Turns out, though, getting married right out of college and paying for a large portion of your wedding doesn’t leave much money for a big honeymoon trip. We needed cheap honeymoon ideas and we needed them fast!
Instead of taking out loans to pay for a dream vacation, Nate and I decided we’d go someplace close to home. We chose somewhere we could drive to, somewhere we could rent a condo so we could make some of our own food, and, yes, somewhere warm. We decided to honeymoon in Leavenworth, WA.
Leavenworth is this adorable touristy town in central Washington with a Bavarian theme. It was so fun to be in a town that tried its best to be German – we got to go to a German beer garden, try really good German cuisine, and pretend we got our European vacation after all.
Our honeymoon was perfect because we didn’t feel like we had to be out and about all the time. Since we were in such a little town there wasn’t a whole lot to do and we were fine with that. We got to sleep in every morning, enjoy a leisurely brunch (usually cooked by my new husband!), and then go out for our activity for the day. There was no pressure to be going nonstop all day every day and we got so much relaxing in during the week we were there.
Although we relaxed a ton, we also planned lots of adventures throughout the week – we went tubing down the river, kayaking in the lake, saw an outdoor production of The Sound of Music, Visited the Ohme Gardens, went wine tasting, and, of course, enjoyed a lot of tasty dinners. Everyday we had at least one adventure planned and we loved trying new activities and making memories together.
We felt like our honeymoon was the perfect entrance into married life. We got to begin our lives together in a normal setting, relaxing and unwinding from our whirlwind wedding planning. Two introverts like us were thrilled to be able to turn off our phones and just focus on each other after spending so much time with people during our prewedding events and the wedding itself.
Although it wasn’t what I thought my dream honeymoon would look like it was the perfect trip and I wouldn’t have traded it for the world! I’m now a firm believer that a cheap trip can be amazing!
