Crazy About a Boy – Caleb's Eight Month Update
My boy is the most precious thing to me! Each month he keeps getting cuter and cuter and so much more fun! He’s getting such a little personality and it’s so fun to see the person he’s going to be coming to life before our eyes. Weight: ??? We haven’t gone to the doctor this month so I don’t know how much he weighs right now. (Up from 20 lb 15 oz at 6 months)
Height: ??? We haven’t gone to the doctor this month so I don’t know how much he weighs right now. (Up from 28 inches at 6 months)
I don’t know how big Caleb is now but I’d guess somewhere around 25 pounds! He’s such an adorable little chunk and I love squeezing his cheeks and his chunky thighs!
Sleep: Oh sleep… It’s always an issue for the little man. We’ve started sleep training this month and it’s been going really well. We knew Caleb needed to start to learn how to put himself to sleep but we were so afraid he would just scream and scream and we were not ok with that. The first night we tried it we were so impressed with how well he did. Yes, he cried but he never got out of hand. We’ve been doing it every night since then and he’s still doing pretty well. Most nights I go in once or twice to calm his crying down and let him know that we’re still here and caring for him before he falls asleep since Nate and I are just not ok with doing a complete cry-it-out situation with Caleb. Since we started sleep training, he’s been able to get himself back to sleep a few times at night – usually around 10 and midnight. Then, usually around 2:30, he really wakes up, needing to be fed. Caleb used to wake up around 5:30 every morning but, ever since we started sleep training, he’s been waking up around 6:30 instead. I’d say, all in all, it’s been a great situation for all three of us. We haven’t even begun sleep training for nap time so Caleb still needs to be bounced. He typically takes one good 1.5-2 hour nap either his first or second nap and then two 30-45 minute naps for either first or second and his third naps. He’s still not quite getting the sleep he needs but we’re getting there…
Likes: Scooting, Chewing on cords, Looking at himself in the mirror, Brushing his teeth, Trying new foods, Throwing food on the ground, Chewing on everything, Being attacked with kisses by mommy and daddy, Playing with his toys, rolling over, Being smiled at, Mama’s boobs, Daddy, Giving kisses, His cousins, His new carseat, going for walks in his stroller, singing, Bath time
Dislikes: Being Tired, Mama and daddy trying to help him eat, Being told he can’t chew on cords, Putting himself to sleep
Clothes: Caleb is in size 4 diapers and, although I pulled out his 12 month clothes and he’s wearing some of them, is mostly in 9 month clothes.
Milestones: Caleb learned how to scoot/army crawl this month! It’s precious to see him getting all over and being so proud of himself. We don’t necessarily love that he now heads toward everything he shouldn’t be playing with/chewing on (mainly cords and DVD cases) but he’s intrigued by them. Caleb loves singing more and more every day. Often when Nate pulls out his guitar or I sing with him he starts “singing” along with us. It’s a totally different sound than when he’s just jabbering so it’s clear that he’s trying to sing. We also got him a little toy guitar and he LOVES it! He has figured out how to get the music going on his own and how to pick the strings. I think I’ve got a little worship leader on my hands – just like his daddy. We went to Spokane for the fourth of July and Caleb got to hang out with his two month old cousins. He LOVES them! He would get so excited whenever they were brought toward him and he always wanted to give them kisses. He’s going to be quite the little leader since he’ll be the oldest of the three of them. Caleb loved watching the fireworks on the fourth of July. He stared at them in fascination and then looked up at us, grinning, until he looked back up at the sky. Caleb is becoming such a little boy – he’s still a baby but we’ve seen some of his boy personality coming out. He a goofball with a hilarious sense of humor and he LOVES trucks and heavy machinery. He’ll stare at fire trucks and construction equipment for as long as we let him. Caleb got two more teeth this month but, of course, is teething out of order. He got one of his top teeth that’s next to his two front teeth (but hasn’t gotten his two front teeth yet) and then got the opposite bottom tooth that’s next to his two front bottom teeth. He’s currently cutting four more teeth so he’s kind of miserable! Caleb’s getting better and better at mimicking us. He’s starting to copy some of our specific sounds. I love getting him to “say” I Love You even though I know he has no clue what he’s saying. He also mimics some of the things we do like playing peek-a-boo, laying on the bed, and wiggling. I’m working on getting him to wave for hello and goodbye and I feel like he’s really close to knowing what he’s doing. Caleb’s eating like a champ and will eat anything we put in front of him. We’re still LOVING baby led weaning and love that we can share meals with him without having to worry about purees or having us feeding him.
Crazy kid, you’re absolutely the most adored little guy. Your daddy and I love seeing your personality come out more and more every day and we’re so in love with the little boy you’re becoming. We can’t believe you’ve been in our lives for eight whole months and are so thankful that God gave you to us to raise. You have the most precious heart and we are excited to see how God uses it. This month has been my favorite as you’ve become more and more fun, goofy, and interactive. You’re still just as opinionated, stubborn, and strong-willed but, since we know that’s who you are, we’re already working on using that for good. Your mama certainly knows what it’s like to have those characteristics. 😉 Never forget that I love you, your daddy loves you, and Jesus loves you! Read More
