I have a few key phrases in my life and one of them is “Strong and Independent Woman.” It’s my phrase to pick women up and encourage them to go for their dreams. It’s my phrase for speaking of my own ability to do things and my own education. Basically it’s my modern day way of saying “
Eshet Chayil.”
All that being said, I still like being taken care of. I may be a strong and independent woman but I certainly don’t mind having a husband who does all the
car work.
The other day I was driving home from the church and I just about had a panic attack. All of a sudden I started thinking about what would happen if Nate were ever to die and leave Caleb and me on our own. Beyond missing him like crazy, I also realized that there were things I didn’t know how to do – things that are (and will continue to be) his domain but wouldn’t hurt for me to know as well.
I’m not saying these things would only come in handy if Nate died. They’d also come in handy if he was
away for work, if I was away visiting people, if Nate was injured… The list goes on and on.
I sat down and made a list… because, of course, I love lists! Here are the top five things I want to learn as a strong and independent woman…
1. Mow the Lawn
2. Change the Oil
3. Use the BBQ
4. Change a Headlight
5. Change a Tire
And, of course, I had to add an extra credit like the good honors student I used to be – Kill a Spider.
It’s amazing how many of those things revolved around cars. Apparently Nate is totally and completely the car person in this house. I decided that changing the oil would be my first lesson. I quickly hopped onto Walmart.com to purchase some Pennzoil since it’s so easy and saves me so much time. Ain’t nobody got time to go to the store with a toddler just to pick up some motor oil!
I was pretty stinking excited to see that Pennzoil was on Rollback when I pulled it up in the online shopping! Seriously, you guys, go check out how cheap it was! Pennzoil is perfect for my high milege car (pretty sure you can say 250,000 miles is high milege…) since it helps reduce leaks and oil consumption in worn or high milege vehicals. Anything that helps my car stay alive longer is a win in my book!
I’m a little nervous to learn how to take care of the car but I know that ultimately it will only make me a better, more well rounded person!
