Nate and I are huge on roadtripping. It’s such a great way to get where we need to go and save since flying is so expensive! When it was just the two of us we traveled all over in our car, sometimes driving up to 10 hours a day. Now that we have Caleb, road trips aren’t quite so simple. We try to keep at it as much as we’re able and we’ve discovered some things that keep our toddler happy on a long trip.
Diapers and Wipes
I’m sure you keep diapers and wipes in your diaper bag but, if your little one is anything like mine, s/he is apt to go through way more diapers than planned on a road trip. Make sure to keep extra ones on hand to keep your little one dry and clean so s/he is comfortable.
Little ones love to play, especially while sitting in a seat for a long time. It’s important to have safety first so hard toys aren’t wise to let your child play with in the car. Caleb’s OBSESSED with his Daniel Tiger stuffed animal and loves balls so those are the toys that typically keep him content on a car ride.
Sippy Cup of His/Her Favorite Beverage
I get SO thirsty on long car rides and toddlers are no different than us, they’re just little people. Having a sippy cup (or a few) ready to hand back to the little one when s/he starts getting thirsty is a good parent move.
Just like getting thirsty, as little one is bound to get hungry while traveling too. Keeping snacks on hand to eat during the trip is a must! Before giving your kiddo a treat to munch on, make sure s/he is able to eat carefully enough to not choke his/herself! Currently Caleb’s favorite treat is Gerber Lil’ Beanies snacks
Gerber Lil’ Beanies
are made with navy beans, are GMO free, and have no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives! That’s the kind of treat I’m happy to let my little man munch on!
Do you have anything to add to the list of things a toddler needs on a road trip?
