I am a sucker for traditions, especially holiday traditions! Seriously, traditions make my heart happy! One great thing about marriage is that I get to multiply my holiday traditions by two! One of Nate’s favorite holiday traditions is sitting around the brunch table on a cold winter’s morning, enjoying fresh out of the oven cinnamon rolls his mom made. Holiday Traditions + Brunch + Family Time? Yeah, I’m totally in! My mother-in-law so graciously gave me her cinnamon roll recipe and, since it’s Christmas time, Nate and I whipped a batch up to enjoy together. Christmas is officially here once Nate has had his first bite of these cinnamon rolls!
One of my favorite things about traditions like these is they don’t have to be planned out or perfect. All it took was a trip to Safeway, a little prep time, and my family was enjoying a wonderful meal full of tastiness and togetherness. Who cares that Caleb had a coughing fit when he got some cinnamon stuck in his throat? Who cares that Nate didn’t roll up the dough quite right and some of the rolls looked a little wonky? We love the philosophy of Minute Maid’s #doinggood campaign (which we enjoyed alongside our cinnamon rolls) and the way they focus on celebrating imperfection for parents who are focusing on their kiddos and doing so much better than they think! Instead of focusing on the “perfect brunch,” all that mattered to us was that we were together, making memories that will last a lifetime!
Lucky for you, I’m sharing my Mother-in-Law’s amazing recipe with all of you! Maybe it can start a new tradition in your house! Before you get started making it, just note that the prep time takes a few hours (to allow the dough to rise, not hands on time!). We start ours the night before.
