Four Reasons We Find Out Our Baby’s Gender {Baby K 2.0 is a…}

I am over halfway through my pregnancy (I’m 23 weeks tomorrow!) and I honestly cannot believe it.  This pregnancy has been so different than my pregnancy with Caleb – the fact that it’s just flying by being one of those ways.  About two weeks ago we had our anatomy ultrasound and got to find out who our little one is!

I always thought it was pretty normal to find out the gender of that baby you’re having but right now I have five pregnant mama friends who have chosen not to find out!  I’m the odd one out now!  My friends are teasing ME for not being patient and for ruining the surprise.  Times are a-changing.

Are you deciding whether or not you’re going to find out the gender of your baby?  I’ll share with you my reasons for finding out but will support you if you decide to be weird and go the whole pregnancy without knowing.  😉

It Makes it Feel More Real

Finding out the gender of my babies has made it feel more real both times.  There’s something about being able to envision the coming little one and plan for what’s to come makes the pregnancy more special.

It Doesn’t Ruin the Surprise

The biggest thing I hear by people who are choosing not to find out the gender of their baby is that “it ruins the surprise.”  That always makes me giggle because I’m just as surprised at 20 weeks as I would be at delivery.  I just get the surprise sooner and I don’t mind that one bit.

I Can Begin Calling the Baby By Name

Even before I was pregnant both times, Nate and I knew what our little one would be named whether it was a boy or a girl.  As soon as the gender has shown up on the ultrasound we are able to start referring to our little person by name.  Calling the baby by name helps me bond even before the little one is born.  Now that we have Caleb, it’s fun talking to him about the baby and calling the baby by name.  Caleb can’t say the name yet but he points to my belly whenever I refer to his little sibling by name.

I’m a Planner

I’ll be the first to admit that I love planning!  I love preparing the nursery, getting the clothes in the closet, and all that jazz.  Once I know the gender I can start planning and dreaming.  I know parents can do that with gender neutral things but I just think it’s so much fun being able to plan around gender specifics.

*** Oh, and, by the way, in case you were wondering, Baby K 2.0 is a BOY!  His name is Josiah Garrett and we’re so excited to welcome him into the world in a little under four months! ***
