There’s so much I love about summertime but one of my favorite things is spending the evening outside enjoying good friends, good food, and good wine. As a hot day melts away to a cool evening and laughter and conversations flit through the air, so much joy fills my heart and I send up a prayer of thankfulness.
Although spontaneous get togethers with friends are fantastic, I also love having dinner parties that are intentional – dinner parties with food that I spend the day preparing, a beautifully set table, and no other plans for the whole night. Since I’m a simple girl, I don’t want to go overboard on the tablescape but I do want it to look classy.
Figure Out a Theme
I’m big on themes for my parties. I’ve hosted events that range anywhere from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles to Pastel Tea Party to Lumberjack. A dinner party doesn’t have to be intensely themed out but the table should look put together. One of my favorite looks is silver and gold – picking out dishes, decor, and
drinks that fit with that theme makes my heart happy.
Clean Off the Table
The first step, before putting anything on the table, is obviously to clean things off. If you’re eating outdoors then the table has probably gotten dirty and grungy. Don’t forget to make the table look just as good and clean as the decor is going to!
Use Paper Plates
My biggest tip, by far, is to use paper plates! You can easily find paper plates that fit with any decor theme you can come up with and, after the party, you have fewer dishes to wash! It looks great and leaves less work for you. Win-win.
Decorate with Live Flowers
Flowers are amazing to decorate with and, in the summertime, living flowers are ideal to decorate with. When the party is done you can plant them in your garden or keep them living in your home. I don’t have much of a green thumb so even my living flowers tend to die after a while but at least they last longer than a bouquet of cut flowers.
Don’t Stress the Small Stuff
Once your table is set, stop stressing over it! I am too much of a perfectionist and am hardly ever satisfied with the way my projects turn out. If I were stressing over the perfect table then I wouldn’t get to enjoy the party. You need to do the same. Get it as good as you can and then leave it! Enjoy your friends and forget about the rest.
For your next summer party,
Clos du Bois, with its new, elegant packaging, is the perfect addition to your tablescape! The new packaging is gorgeous but, thankfully, it has the same great taste. The wine is perfect for all sorts of summer occasions – take a bottle picnicking, share a bottle while entertaining in your backyard, enjoy a glass while relaxing on the porch, options are endless! I’m loving the
Clos du Bois Chardonnay and Clos du Bois Cabernet Sauvignon but there are so many other types of Clos du Bois wine that I’m wanting to try! Make sure you pick up a bottle the next time you head to the store!
