The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, and the rain is falling. Spring has definitely sprung and I am here for it! I am all about spring cleaning and lately I have been revved up to get all the things done! While a deep cleaned, organized house is wonderful, I’ve also been realizing how much I crave a clean, organized appearance as well. I’ve decided it’s high time I spring clean my look!
As a stay-at-home mama I find myself getting complacent in the way I look. Sometimes I’ll stay in my pajamas until two in the afternoon. Most of the time I’m makeupless and my hair is a mess. While those things are good for some days, having that be my norm has made me complacent in other areas of life as well. I look and feel like a lazy bum and my actions follow the way I feel.
Instead of just living in that complacency, I have taken some time to clean up my look in order to feel good about myself again and desire to live an intentional life.
Five Ways to Spring Clean Your Look
I love clothes but I HATE spending a lot of money on clothes. I’ve realized lately that I’m a collector of clothes – especially clothes I can get for free or cheap – but don’t focus on having a personal style. My wardrobe is a hodgepodge of everything but I don’t feel confident in half the things I own. I decided to purge my closet and get rid of anything that doesn’t make me feel confident. I also am really focusing on the things I love to wear and building my wardrobe around those things. There were some pieces of clothing (like my black leggings that were threadbare) that I realized I should be willing to spend the money to replace instead of praying the seams don’t rip as I’m wearing them. I made a list of items of clothing I felt my closet was lacking and am slowly purchasing them so I can feel good about the things I place on my body.
I am all about the same makeup routine all day, every day (at least on the days I wear makeup). It takes me a long time to go through makeup products and recently remembered that I got the eyeshadow palate I use during college – around nine years ago! Yeah, that definitely got replaced. Updating my makeup and deciding on some fun new products to jazz up my face for date night or when I just want to add a little pizzazz has been a great way to clean up my look.
I am horrible about a grooming routine. Winter makes me very complacent. I let my legs get crazy hairy, I completely forget about my face washing regiment, and my toenail polish gets majorly chipped. Even though none of these things are noticed by other people, they’re noticed by me and make me feel like a slacker. Spring is the perfect time to get back into routine!
Exercise is pretty self explanatory. With the winter being dark and dreary, it’s hard to find motivation to exercise. Now that there are plenty of nice days, I love getting out and walking with friends, running around with my boys at the park, and even doing things like yoga or zumba at home. It makes me feel good and, obviously, makes my body healthier!
One of my favorite ways to update my look is to dye my hair! I have had my hair basically every natural color other than super blonde or black and it is so fun to try new looks out! Dying my hair myself is fun and much cheaper than going elsewhere to have it done! This time I decided to try out Schwarzkopf color ULTÎME® in Espresso Black – one of the darkest shades I’ve ever done!
I love using Schwarzkopf color ULTÎME® from Walmart because it’s the most fashionable & vibrant hair color that defies fading for up to 9 weeks of color shine! Nine weeks of great color is perfect! Sometimes picking out a box hair dye stresses me out because I’m not sure exactly what it will look like on my head. Schwarzkopf color ULTÎME® has very “true to box” color results and the shine is fantastic! I love that the shine and feel of the hair after coloring even after weeks. Ain’t nobody got time to dye their hair over over and over to keep the color up.
