Fifteen Minutes to Company Clean
This post is sponsored by Bona but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
My house is always a slight mess. It’s rarely REALLY messy and dirty but it’s also rarely REALLY clean. I’m a recovering perfectionist so this can stress me out but I’ve learned that having two crazy little boys makes it so clean isn’t always possible and I’d rather have them enjoy themselves than have them stress over always having to keep their toys cleaned up. I’ve learned some great tips when it comes to speed cleaning for company and never one to keep tips to myself!
Before we really get started, one of the biggest tips I have for speed cleaning is that you have to keep your house somewhat tidy. I don’t have tips on how to speed clean a messy house because messy houses give me anxiety and I don’t need any more anxiety in my life. Keep counters wiped down, dishes loaded into the dishwasher, spills wiped up, the normal stuff! This way, you only need fifteen minutes and your home will be company clean!
Speed Cleaning for Company
Put Toys Away
Our living room is also the main location my boys play so it’s constantly covered in toys. We’ve made it a priority to keep the number of toys we own to a minimum and we make sure everything has a place and that our three year old knows everything’s place. When it’s time to quickly clean, we are able to clean up the toys in about five minutes. Since we don’t need the house to look like it isn’t lived in, we don’t necessarily put all the toys away – just the ones that aren’t currently being played with. (Check out this post if you want to find out how we organize our toys!)
Hide Out of Place Items
Although we do our best to keep everything in the place it’s supposed to be, that doesn’t always happen. Sorry, but we’re not perfect! 😉 I have a secret tip for when unexpected company is coming over – bedrooms have doors! I grab all the books, laptops, notebooks, and everything else that’s out of place and throw it on my bed and shut the door. No one needs to know that my bedroom is a wreck!
Tidy the Kitchen
If you do your best to keep the dishes caught up on, then tidying the kitchen shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. Load any additional dishes into the dishwasher or quickly hand wash them, sweep the floor, put things away, and call it good! Being able to do a quick clean in the kitchen is definitely motivation for me to keep it mostly clean at all times.
Do a Quick Clean
Once things are put away (or hidden), it’s time for some quick cleaning. This is when I grab my speed cleaning products. I start out by doing a quick dusting, scrubbing down any areas grubby little hands have grabbed, and then do a quick vacuum of our living room rug. Lastly I grab my Bona® Premium Microfiber Mop for Hard-Surface Floors and give my living room floors a once over. The mop is perfect for hard surface floors (just don’t use it on laminate or other flooring like that) and makes my floor all shiny and fantastic looking and that makes my heart happy. I start out with attaching the Bona® Disposable Dusting Cloths to wipe down all the dusty and dirty flooring and then switch to a Bona® Wet Cleaning Pad and scrub any areas that need a little extra loving. I love the Bona Quick Clean line because it’s perfect when I need fast results in between full deep cleans and I’m a total fan of the fact that it has the GREENGUARD GOLD certification which confirms that it’s safe to use in my home and around my family. The Bona Quick Clean line has specially designed no residue formulation that effectively removes dust, dirt, and grime and leaves your floors clean and beautiful!
Start a Pot of Coffee and Pull Out Some Treats
Once all your cleaning is done, do something that’s a personal touch for your guest. Unless I know that my guest isn’t a fan of coffee, I always put a pot on. If they don’t drink it, I know I will! I try to have tea, juice, and other drinks available if that’s more their style. Recently I’ve also been keeping homemade banana bread in the freezer so I can pull it out for an occasion like this. Homemade banana bread and a fresh cup of coffee… I know I couldn’t (and don’t) resist!
I’m giving away one Bona Quick-Clean Kit to a reader! I’d love for it to go to someone with a heart for hospitality and a desire to keep their home fifteen minutes from company clean! Check out Bona’s website to see everything you’d get!
