Pregnant mama, let me ask you a question… How are you with self care? If I had to guess, I would say that your answer is “not very good.” I totally get it. You’re exhausted and just trying to get through life while growing a little human. Even so, it is SO important to practice good self care during pregnancy. While your body belongs to both you and another little person, you need to be making sure you’re staying as cared for as possible! Let’s say it together – Self care during pregnancy matters!
Since I’m currently in my third trimester of my third pregnancy, I’ve gotten really good at self care ideas while pregnant. Since I’m so nice, I’m willing to share all my tried and true tips for self care for pregnant moms. You’re welcome!
Self Care Ideas While Pregnant
Drink All the Water
I’m really, really, REALLY bad about drinking enough water. Honestly, at every midwife appointment she scolds me for being almost dehydrated. I’m trying so hard to make sure I’m getting the water my body and my baby need to be healthy. Self care starts with the things we NEED so drinking water is a vital part of self care, pregnant or not!
Journal Your Feelings
Oh my goodness, the pregnancy emotions! With all the hormones coursing through your body, it’s important to allow yourself room to process and truly feel those emotions. Journaling is a great way to process feelings and set yourself up for emotional success!
Give Into Cravings
There are so many things you can and can’t eat during pregnancy and sometimes your favorite treat is on the must-not-eat list. (I’m looking at you, soft cheeses!) Cravings are real during pregnancy and I feel as though it’s important to give into the cravings, even if they’re an indulgence. #TreatYourself Just make sure you talk to your health care provider if you’re craving something weird. Don’t give into those cravings, girl!
Do Something That Relaxes You
I know it’s a controversial topic, but I am partial to taking a bath in order to relax. 😉 Give me some Epsom salts, a book, and a tasty snack and I’m good. (What, you don’t eat in the bathtub?) Maybe you’re anti-bath, but I’m sure you have your own way to relax. Play calming music, read a good book, watch your favorite TV show, call your best friend… The list of relaxing things you can do is endless. The little one you’re carrying will thank you for keeping yourself relaxed!
Let Yourself Rest
Real talk, pregnancy is exhausting! Honestly, I’m more tired while pregnant than I am during the newborn night waking season. Give yourself permission to rest! Talk to your husband about how you need him to get up with your other kids so you can sleep in. Take a nap. Go to bed early. However it works into your schedule, find the time to sleep!!!!
On the other end of the spectrum, make sure you’re keeping your body active. Obviously listen to your body and your healthcare provider about what level of activity is doable for you but just make sure you’re not laying around all day! (Unless you’re on bedrest! Then definitely lay around all day!) Keeping active is a must!
